Kryštof Kohout

Kryštof Kohout is an award-winning Czech violinist, praised for his profound artistry, expressive virtuosity and dynamic performances as a captivating soloist and insightful chamber musician. Performing widely across Europe and the US, recent highlights include his Carnegie Hall debut recital, Wigmore Hall, and Zeneakadémia Budapest, as well as festival debuts including the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, and Nordlysfestivalen.

Kryštof made his Barbican Hall debut performing Berg's Violin Concerto aged 21, and as a soloist regularly works with orchestras internationally including the Hungarian Radio Symphony, Manchester Camerata, Prague Chamber Soloists, Jenaer Philharmonie, and BBC Philharmonic. His performances are regularly broadcast internationally including on BBC Radio 3, Czech Radio, RAI TV and BR Klassik, and he has recently recorded works by George Walker, Kaija Saariaho, and Missy Mazzoli in collaboration with the Barbican Centre and BBC Radio 3 for their Total Immersion series.

Kryštof is a laureate of the Bartók World Competition, a recipient of the Musicians' Company Silver Medal, and he was recently selected as the sole instrumentalist to join the prestigious Classeek Ambassador Programme. This season sees Kryštof perform concertos with the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, South Czech Philharmonic, the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, along with recitals at Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall and Bridgewater Hall.

Kryštof studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with David Takeno and has also received an International Artist Diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music. In addition, he has worked with artists such as Midori, Leonidas Kavakos and Anne-Sophie Mutter, and attended international courses including IMS Prussia Cove and Kronberg Academy.

Kryštof performs on a Gennaro Gagliano violin, generously loaned to him by the Tompkins Tate Musical Instrument Trust.
